Publication Year

2008

Document Status

Abstract

Section 5 makes provisions to ensure a building's occupants are protected from sound transmission emanating from attached buildings, or from part of the same building, or for the case of dwellings, protection is afforded to those occupying rooms where there is an expectation of quietness and tranquillity. The sound transmission aspects only cover normal domestic activities and do not include protection from power tools, loud audio systems and noise emanating from environmental factors through the building fabric, such as transport. This consultation proposes increases in sound insulation performance, post-completion testing, guidance on the affects of workmanship on performance, guidance for work to existing buildings and reduction in sound passing between rooms in dwellings.
