Abstract
Sets out the national planning policy framework for the working of opencast coal. The policies are equally applicable to those minerals, such as clays for brick making, where extraction occurs in association with coal removal.
Document History
Superseded by Scottish planning policy (Scottish Government, 2010). Supersedes NPG 16: Opencast coal and related minerals (Scottish Office, 1999) and Scottish Planning Policy SPP16 - opencast coal: consultation draft (SEDD, 2004). SPP 16 is part of a new series of planning policy documents, which will gradually update all NPPGs.
