Abstract

Appropriate for larger works designed and/or detailed by or on behalf of the employer, where detailed contract provisions are necessary and the employer is to provide the contractor with drawings. With approximate bills of quantities to define the quantity and quality of the work, which are subject to re-measurement, as there is insufficient time to prepare the detailed drawings necessary for accurate bills of quantities to be produced. Can also be used where a contract administrator and quantity surveyor are to administer the conditions.

Document History

JCT 2005 Contracts should not be used for construction contracts entered into after 1 October 2011. Replaces JCT 98 Private with Approximate Quantities and JCT 98 LA with Approximate Quantities. Updates the 2007 revision. The principal revision is the incorporation of sustainability provisions, following JCT’s consultation, and provisions building on OGC’s Achieving Excellence criteria. Aspects of the payment provisions have been modified while awaiting the outcome of the proposed payment legislation. Includes Terrorism Cover Update, issued December 2009.
