Abstract

Specifies national policy on the historic environment, explains how the protection of the historic environment and the promotion of opportunities for change can contribute to sustainable development, identifies a range of planning action designed to achieve conservation objectives, including implications for development plans and development control, and emphasises the contribution of social and economic factors in shaping the historic environment.
