Concerned with those aspects of safety analysis that the engineer can assert some control over through design calculations, and consists of three sections: A general discussion of the problems of uncertainty analysis in geotechnical design; A discussion of practical calculation techniques; and An examination of the role of Knowledge Based Systems (KBS).
