Abstract

Sustainable design is the practice of considering the environmental, economic and cultural impact of modern building practices when planning the design of a structure or site. In architectural terms this includes everything from closely monitoring the materials used in building and site construction in order to avoid toxic, rare or polluting products, to providing ease of conversion, demolition and recycling once the structure has outlived its usefulness Architecture, real estate and construction industries are beginning to realise that it is not just environmentally responsible to build sustainably, but also financially rewarding. The market for this technology will grow as it becomes less expensive and its practices become further integrated. Details over 25 international HOK projects in which sustainability was a central concern. It focuses not only on each project's environmental considerations, but presents the technicalities and intricacies, including material selection, site preparation, resource conservation, sustainable energy usage, demolition and recycling.
