This year the conference externallinkspotlight falls on core areas of industry growth and market priorities – including housing, design, infrastructure, the skills gap, technology and wellbeing.

The programme will see a range of high-profile personalities from the construction industry and media talking housing and architecture, while looking towards the next generation, the drivers of growth and what is new and inspiring in construction.

Highlights include:

  • What makes good housing? Featuring Dave Sheridan from Keepmoat, Tony Pidgley from Berkley Group and architecture critic Rowan Moore.
  • Street life – city growth through regeneration with Alan Sitkin from Regents University and David Waterhouse from Design Council Cabe.

CPD-accredited learning hubs offer learning opportunities for all including focussed sessions on design, building performance, energy and #buildcircular.

NBS have created a programme of activity especially for the Digital Building hub – including an introduction to BIM for manufacturers, practical advice for construction professionals and an exploration of how best to co-ordinate BIM through the project timeline.

Elsewhere, the Infrastructure revolution learning hubexternallink brings together high-profile clients and contractors to focus on the effective delivery of huge government investment and the possibilities for exceptional form and wellbeing as well as function.

The Discover social hub is also set to be a must-visit to see shortlisted talents from the Architect of the Year Awards. It will also be the focus for Ecobuild’s Big Innovation Pitch. The competition aims to discover green construction solutions that will help in the creation of a sustainable build environment. Finalists include Actimass Ltd (thermal mass solutions), Air2eu (which ‘creates water out of thin air’), Skanska Facilities Services (bespoke facilities management), Tadpole Energy Ltd (specialist heating efficiency) and Waterblade (a water saving fitting). The final day of the show will see the companies pitching to the judging panel to win the chance to take their product innovation further with Marks and Spencer.

Visqueen launches Ultimate Self Adhesive Membrane for hydrocarbon and VOC-contaminated sites

The construction industry faces growing challenges when building on increasingly complex brownfield sites. Alongside the need for effective waterproofing, developers and contractors must now address a wider range of ground contaminants, including hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and hazardous ground gases, while maintaining programme efficiency and installation quality. Against this backdrop, Visqueen has expanded its gas protection and waterproofing portfolio with the launch of Visqueen Ultimate Self Adhesive Membrane, a new hydrocarbon and VOC-resistant self-adhesive tanking membrane. Developed as the latest addition to the Visqueen non-foil gas barrier range, the new membrane combines proven gas barrier and waterproofing performance to help specifiers address multiple site challenges with a single solution.

Siderise: Helping to bridge the gap between Gateway 2 approval and on-site fire protection

While the new building safety regime hasn’t fundamentally changed what requirements higher-risk buildings (HRBs) must meet to comply with the Building Regulations, it has significantly increased the breadth, depth and volume of evidence that must be supplied to demonstrate this. As a result, project teams have had to adapt the way they work and even look beyond their roles to understand how their actions may impact the next Dutyholder in the chain. For specifiers, this can include considering what supporting services are offered with life safety-critical elements to enable correct design, installation and maintenance. Early engagement with manufacturer technical specialists can help identify any practical challenges that may arise onsite. Then, during construction, these services can help support the translation of design intent into reality so that buildings are safe for occupation.
