Abstract

The ASFP yellow book (5th edition, 2014) continues to provide the latest advice for the manufacture, testing, specification and use of passive fire protection for structural steels. The 2014 update was introduced to meet the requirements of steel Eurocodes, multi-temperature analysis (MTA) and structural fire engineering. However, caution is urged with recent trends in the use of fabricated sections with corrugated web. These can offer weight savings with thinner web. Specifiers are encouraged to consult and verify with the manufacturers on the product certifications and testing, as well as gain more detail about the structural fire resistance performance and fire protection performance of these sections.
