VBIS, NBS and BIM-MEP working together in building service classification mapping

Virtual Buildings Information System (VBIS), NBS and BIM-MEPAUS are working together to support the mapping of building services classifications.

Uniclass partnership

At the Construction Innovation Forum in 2018 it was announced that the Australian market and the BIM-MEPAUS initiative were looking to align with the Uniclass Classification system as far as practicable.

After the launch of VBIS in June 2019 the Uniclass team at NBS have been working closely with the teams from BIM-MEPAUS and VBIS to ensure that there is a consistent mapping between the VBIS virtual component tag codes and the Uniclass codes to ensure the alignment between the two classifications.

This will allow where possible for there to be a 1 to 1 mapping between VBIS and Uniclass.

This then allows users to take advantage of both systems simultaneously in the management of assets.
