Specification Consultant

We have an opportunity for a Specification Consultant to join the NBS Schumann team.

 As Specification Consultant you will collaborate with a diverse range of domestic and international designers in the fields of architecture, interiors, and landscape design. The role involves providing comprehensive specification-related advice and project documentation in various formats (such as Uniclass, CAWS, CSi,), reflecting clients' design aspirations, methods, legal requirements, quality standards, sustainability objectives, and commercial targets. The successful candidate will utilize our in-house NBS Chorus and Source platforms to deliver exceptional results.

Specification Consultant - Remote

Job Description:

Some of the key responsibilities:

  • Prepare outline, tender, and contract specifications reflecting the project design of Architects, Engineers, and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with clients' objectives and industry standards.
  • Coordinate specifications with related documentation prepared by others, including drawings, schedules, and technical reports, to ensure consistency and accuracy in project documentation.
  • Provide appropriate specifications to reflect designers' risk profile, considering factors such as project complexity, budget constraints, and regulatory requirements.
  • Generate documentation reflecting contractual arrangements stipulated for the project, such as warranties, liabilities, and indemnities, to mitigate risks and ensure legal compliance.
  • Collect and collate design information to prepare keynotes for use in Building Information Modeling (BIM), facilitating collaboration and information exchange among project stakeholders.

 We are looking for someone who 

  • Has a minimum of 5 years’ experience writing architectural specification content who can demonstrate a strong understanding of industry standards and best practice.
  • Has knowledge, understanding, and experience of preparing architectural specifications in Uniclass, CAWS, and CSI specification classifications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Is familiar with how specifications are used within a BIM environment, including the ability to collaborate effectively with BIM teams and integrate specification data into BIM models.
  • Has the ability to discuss and pursue new opportunities with customers, gathering appropriate information to prepare fee proposals and tailor specifications to meet their specific needs and objectives.
  • Is competent in NBS Chorus and NBS Source, leveraging these platforms to streamline the specification writing process, manage project documentation, and enhance productivity.
  • Has excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines and who can communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
