ievo Ltd, the Newcastle-based manufacturer of biometric authentication technology, has worked with NBS to produce a comprehensive range of BIM objects for fingerprint readers and control panels in the NBS National BIM Library.
A leading designer and manufacturer of world-class biometric recognition systems based in the North East of the UK, ievo Ltd provides a safe, secure and reliable biometric solution for the access control market.
The growth of BIM as a design tool for architects, engineers and other specifiers is transforming the way that buildings are designed, and we need to be involved in this new technology to be of assistance to our customers. NBS conducted a survey with 1000 architects and contractors, in which 64% of respondents said that using BIM technology had given them a competitive advantage.
Introducing BIM objects is our first measured approach to working directly with designers and architects. Our aim is to be involved with any potential project from conception to final delivery, so we try and address and educate clients on all levels about the features and benefits of our products. We have seen cases where projects that we worked on over two years ago are starting to come to the fore now. We have invested in BIM technology and the NBS National BIM Library to make our products more accessible to architects and designers. They can utilize our technology by using smart BIM objects at the planning stages of development, rather than leaving it towards the end of a project cycle.
Security in general, and particularly access control, are vital requirements on commercial building projects, which can be complex in planning, so it makes sense to incorporate the very latest technology in the designs. In addition, because BIM objects are now available in the most common formats used in design planning, consultants can add the relevant objects at later stages of the development without having to worry about compatibility of software.
All ievo objects in the NBS National BIM Library are available in REVIT and IFC formats, and have been made available to help specifiers, architects and contractors using BIM building practices to incorporate the very latest in biometric access control technology in their designs.
In the UK, BIM is increasingly used on most large projects, whilst in Dubai (a growing export market for ievo), BIM is actually mandatory for all major projects and buildings (developments of over 40 stories or 300 000 ft2), alongside all government, hospital, university and school projects. We are currently developing a digital strategy that will incorporate our marketing efforts alongside using new digital technology tools like the NBS National BIM Library. As a technology-based company, we are continuously monitoring new trends in applied technologies, and we are in constant talks with content and technology partners like NBS to ensure that our solutions are at the cutting edge of innovation.
ievo Ltd is the first biometric/ fingerprint reader company in the NBS National BIM Library. Choosing NBS to author our BIM objects means that they will be uniquely integrated within a digital BIM ecosystem that is used by construction industry professionals from all disciplines around the world.
