Classification of ‘things’ is an integral part in the successful delivery of interoperable data, allowing information to be organised and easily retrieved. To support the industry in assigning classification, NBS and the Government Industry Interoperability Group have undertaken an alignment exercise between Uniclass and IFC, removing the need to work through a manual decision process and improving consistent selection within the industry.
This article describes what each table can be used for, and lists some example items classified in Uniclass tables, to help all users implement the appropriate tables and classifications in their work.
Uniclass is a unified classification system for the built environment covering all sectors and roles, delivered by NBS.
