FAQs

What was the NBS BIM Toolkit?
The BIM Toolkit was an Innovate UK-initiated project launched in April 2015 as part of the Level 2 BIM package of tools and standards. Following this initial launch, NBS developed and maintained the platform for over six years, and it was free for users. In July 2022, the online digital plan of work was retired. This Digital Plan Work portal from NBS provides guidance and templates for developing a digital plan of work, classifying information, and defining information development.
What are the standards that define BIM?
What tools do NBS provide that further support this process?
The Uniclass website contains 1,000s of classifications for items in the built environment. NBS Chorus allows specifications to be developed collaboratively in the cloud. NBS Source is a platform that contains well-structured technical information from 1,000s of construction product manufacturers. These three resources together, combined, are essential tools to use when developing information on any construction project.
Where can I find further guidance on these topics?
Which tools from NBS are free and which are subscription products?
Uniclass and NBS Source are platforms that are free-to-use for those searching for classifications or manufacturer product data. NBS Chorus is a paid-for online platform for specification writers. There is a paid-for subscription for product manufacturers that want to position their information within NBS Source and NBS Chorus.
