Dame Judith Hackitt announced as keynote speaker at NBS' Construction Leaders' Summit

The one-day event returns October 17, 2023, to address building a safe and sustainable future, regulatory changes, and the role of technology in today’s construction industry.

On 17th October 2023, NBS, the platform for connected construction information, will once again bring together advisors, industry experts, and decision-makers in construction, architecture, and digital transformation, for the annual Construction Leaders’ Summit at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London.

Dame Judith Hackitt returns as a keynote speaker on building safety and the construction sector’s progress on implementing a ‘golden thread’ of information to support those responsible for the design, construction, and management of buildings.

Dr Hamil will also chair a panel on the topic alongside industry experts, including architectural specification and design management expert Mark Schumann, Global Head, NBS Schumann, examining how new building regulations have provided a catalyst for change, particularly in the way information is used and managed by the industry.
In addition to building safety, the one-day summit will also cover other major industry issues such as sustainability and digital transformation.

Having recently achieved a Gold Award from the UN for its own carbon reduction efforts, NBS is committed to providing space for cross-industry collaboration and discussion, championing best practice and innovation on the road to Net Zero.

The following people will be speaking at Construction Leaders’ Summit; Gary Clark, Principal, HOK and former Chair of RIBA Sustainable Futures Group, Jade Lewis, Chief Executive Officer, Sustainable Energy Association and James Fiske, Chief Executive Officer, BCIS and Chair, BECD, Jaimie Johnston MBE, Board Director and Head of Global Systems, Bryden Wood.

In addition, the event will also look at how the industry has reacted to a challenging economic landscape, exploring pain points and highlighting growth areas for the future, with an update from industry tracker Glenigan’s Economic Director, Allan Wilen, on the outlook for the UK construction industry, and the likely impact of external factors including spiking interest rates, materials shortages, and cost inflation.

Russell Haworth, Chief Executive Officer, Byggfakta Group (NBS & Glenigan), says “The Building Safety Act and the associated secondary legislation is a major turning point for the industry, but the fact remains that there is more to do, and work continues.

“We’ve brought together some of the best in the business to provide attendees with insightful guidance that should inspire them within their own line of work. The summit will cover several important topical issues, including the construction industry's digital transformation, and provide a forum for the industry to share ideas and expertise.

“As we celebrate 50 years of NBS, we’re reflecting on how far we’ve come, and importantly, where we go from here. Now is the time to make real change on the ground, working together toward higher standards throughout our built environment, for the better of people and the planet.”
