NBS Old Post Office Refurb

For almost a century, the Old Post Office, at St Nicholas Street, was at the heart of Newcastle’s city centre - a major employer, handling parcels and letters and facilitating money orders and telegrams, for residents and businesses alike. And now its new owner, NBS, which provides technical information to construction industry professionals, is bringing the past to life with a gallery packed full of memories.

The owners of a building, which was once at the heart of life on Tyneside, are calling on those that used it to share their memories for a special exhibition.

The president of the Royal Institute of British Architects has praised the team behind the redevelopment of one of Newcastle’s most important historic buildings.

A £5.8m redevelopment will transform a former post office, home to NBS, into a modern office space and public gallery.

RIBA Enterprises, the knowledge arm of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is seeking a North East based architect to redevelop its current premises in central Newcastle.
