This year, RIBA replaces the 50-year old Plan of Work (PoW) with a new revamped version that will see the traditional 11 alphabetically arranged work stages replaced by eight numbered stages.

This programme looks at the reasoning behind the change, what architects can expect and how it will affect their day-to-day practice.

RIBA Director of Practice - Adrian Dobson, and Dyer Director - Dale Sinclair (who chaired the PoW review panel), also compare the new plan with the existing 2007 version and discuss how the 2013 overhaul will be integrated into the wider construction industry.

About the contributors

Adrian Dobson is a Chartered Architect and the current RIBA Director of Practice. He is responsible for co-ordination of the RIBA’s business, legal and technical support to the architects’ profession and its work in professional standards.

Previous to joining the RIBA Adrian worked for NPS Property Consultants. Adrian studied architecture at the University of Manchester. As well as working in professional practice he has taught in higher education and carried out research in advanced CAD and BIM. Adrian has served as a regionally-elected RIBA Council Member and is a former Hon Secretary and Treasurer of the Commonwealth Association of Architects.

Dale Sinclair joined Dyer as a Director in October 2003. His previous experience includes almost twenty years at Building Design Partnership, where he led the practice’s working groups on internal processes and envelope technology and latterly became a Director. As well as editing the RIBA Plan of Work 2013, Dale chaired its review panel and has worked cheek-by jowl with RIBA for the plan's launch on 21 May 2013.
