Building owners and managers who control air-conditioning systems now have a statutory obligation to ensure those systems are inspected in accordance with Article 9 of the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations 2007. This is in addition to existing obligations relating to the operation and maintenance of systems.

The aim is to improve the energy efficiency of buildings by reducing the electricity consumption, operating costs and carbon emissions of air conditioning systems. The first deadline for inspections is approaching and action should be taken now as building managers are expected to provide, or assemble, documentation describing the system and any existing inspection/maintenance regime in advance of the inspection.

This programme looks at the requirements, the timetable, and action points to help prepare for yet more legislation!
