This programme takes a look at the key concepts from the 17th edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations.

Having clarified the legal status of the regulations and how they correspond with British Standards, it outlines the general clause changes and their effect upon wiring installation and alterations. Key wiring definitions and abbreviations are explained. The focus then turns to Health and Safety in the regulations, addressing guidance on protection against voltage disruption and electromagnetic influences, including updated information about electrical sockets and wiring in bathrooms. It also deals with protection of wiring systems against the risk of fire. The process of self-certification for completed installations is explained, while guidance on lighting is addressed in the context of the phasing out of incandescent luminaires. There is also a look at what's in the pipeline for future amendments to the Wiring Regulations.
